The Jaw Rehabilitation Program uses a step-by step series of goals and objectives to develop biting and chewing skills. This program is effective for individuals diagnosed with autism, cleft palate, Down syndrome, dyspraxia, neuromuscular disorders, cerebral palsy, stroke, traumatic brain injury, or dysarthria.
Used by speech-language pathologists and other health care professionals, the program targets the development of mandibular movement, facilitates jaw stability, and develops repeatable patterns of mandibular. Divided into seven outcome levels, the program builds on skills achieved at the previous level for a sequenced progression of treatment exercises.
Level I and II: Development of prerequisite sensory and motor skills.
Levels III and IV: Development of initial motor patterns of vertical jaw movement.
Levels V, VI, and VII: Development of extended rhythmical and repetitive excursion/closure biting motion.
