Melodic Intonation Therapy Kit (MIT)

This is the authoritative training program for Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT). Dr. Nancy Helm-Estabrooks, one of the original developers of MIT demonstrates these methods on videotape with an aphasic patient as he progresses through all three MIT levels.

The MIT videotape includes a rationale for MIT and criteria for selecting candidates. It also shows five stimulus items being presented to an aphasic client at each of the three levels, with scoring of responses. The manual includes a review of the scientific background for MIT and of four cases (two good candidates and two poor candidates) treated with MIT, with discussion of their lesion characteristics and pre- and post treatment language findings.
